Where does Patchouli essential oil come from?
Patchouli is a bushy plant, commonly found in India and Malaysia, with furry leaves and flowers with a purple hue (not too dissimilar to lavender). The oil is obtained from the young leaves, which are dried and fermented before distillation. The essential oil is thick and dark brown in appearance, the fragrance improves with age to give a fuller, more rounded scent.
What does Patchouli smell like?
Patchouli is a strong earthy and exotic fragrance. It is used in many perfumes that have a mysterious, oriental characteristic and was very much in vogue during the ‘Flower Power’ era of the 1960’s.

The earthy aura of patchouli promotes a grounding and balancing effect. It helps clarify problems and makes the mind more objective thus settling emotional states and provides relaxation.
